NITTANY LION WRESTLING CLUB 2023 GOLF CLASSIC

The Golf Classic is being held at the 4.5 star Toftrees Championship Golf Course on Aug. 25, 2023!

About the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.  The NLWC is a tax-exempt, charitable, educational organization [IRS code Sec 501(c)(3)].  The NLWC serves wrestling at all levels with particular emphasis on Olympic development.   Penn State University has been designated as a U.S. Olympic Regional Training Center (RTC).  The NLWC serves as the administrator of the Training Center and conducts RTC practices in the Penn State Wrestling Room. 

 The goal of the NLWC Golf Classic is to raise money for the Club’s Resident Athlete Program!

 The Resident Athlete Program is comprised of elite wrestlers whom the NLWC coaching staff has recruited to live in Central Pennsylvania and train at the NLWC Regional Olympic Training Center.  This program is designed to provide the coaching, training environment, and financial support necessary for these individuals to compete for and win Olympic and World Championships. 

 Current Resident Athletes are Jane Valencia, Jennifer Page-Rogers, Thomas Gilman, Roman Bravo-Young, Josh Rodriguez, Jordan Conaway, Nick Lee, Zain Retherford, Franklin Gomez, Jason Nolf, David Taylor, Max Dean, Bo Nickal, Kyle Synder, Anthony Cassar, and Ceron Francisco.   These wrestlers are some of the best in the world, and the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club is proud to be represented by the athletes!

The above athletes are coached by Cael Sanderson, Cody Sanderson, Casey Cunningham, Jake Varner, Mark McKnight, and Jimmy Kennedy whom comprise the NLWC Resident Athlete Program and U.S. Olympic Regional Training Center coaching staff.  

Sponsoring the 2023 Golf Classic

The NLWC invites you to participate as a sponsor for the NLWC Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023 at the Toftrees Golf Resort in State College, PA.  This golf tournament that has been one of the Club’s primary fundraising events for the past 29 years, and we greatly appreciate your continued support.  Along with the golf, there will be great food, outstanding prizes, silent auction items, and the opportunity to spend a day with NLWC wrestlers, coaches, and other wrestling fans!  

As a Tournament Sponsor, you will enjoy many benefits, including complimentary golfer registration(s) based on the level of sponsorship you choose.  As a complimentary golfer(s), you will play in a 4-person scramble where each player must contribute 2 drives (par 3 holes excluded).  Golfers who are 65 or older and have a handicap of 10 or higher will be permitted to hit from the gold tees.  If you wish to add golfers to your team in addition to those which are complimentary, the tournament registration fee is $225/golfer.  The fee includes:  cart, greens fees, BBQ lunch, breakfast or afternoon snack (depending upon tee times), shirt, and the opportunity to win plenty of great contest, team, and door prizes!   

Each group (foursome) will start at their own individual tee time with tee times ranging from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a new group starting every 10 minutes.  Thus, group 1 will start at 7:30 a.m., group 2 at 7:40 a.m., etc. until 2:00 p.m.  We will do our best to accommodate tee time requests with preferences being given by order of registration.  A BBQ Lunch will be served in a tent from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  This will give golfers who have morning tee times a chance to sit down and eat after they finish their round, and for those with tee times in the afternoon to do the same thing before they start their round of golf.  

Mulligans will be available for purchase on the day of the tournament.  The maximum number of mulligans for each player is 4, maximum of 1 mulligan per player per hole, and no skill or hole-in-one prizes can be won with a mulligan.

The NLWC also has some other special events planned with this year’s golf tournament:  

Social the Evening before the Golf Tournament

All golfers and sponsors are invited to a social hosted by the NLWC on the evening before the golf tournament.  There will be no additional charge to attend the social.   It will be a low-key event with snacks/drinks and the opportunity to mix and talk with NLWC wrestlers, coaches, and other golfers.  The exact time and location of the social will be emailed to golfers and sponsors later in the summer.  

Opportunity to watch NLWC Olympic RTC Practices

This was popular last year as many golfers and sponsors attended the Club’s Olympic RTC practice.  The plan for the 2023 golf tournament is to again open up the practices on Thursday (24^th) afternoon and Friday (25^th) morning to golfers and sponsors.  This will be a great opportunity to see the NLWC coaches and wrestlers and watch some wrestling action.  The exact practice times will be emailed to golfers and sponsors later in the summer.

However, tax law requires us to estimate the value of goods or services that have been rendered to you in return for your contribution, and to remind you that your contribution is deductible only to the extent that it exceeds what we have provided. After you complete your on-line sponsorship, we will follow-up to give you the estimate for the taxable amount of your sponsorship donation. 

In addition, we will send you a detailed receipt and confirm your business name/logo for the listing of sponsors. 

Depending upon your sponsorship amount, you will also be entitled to a number of complimentary golfers.
