World Team Trials Results
The NLWC Wrestlers had a great weekend at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Iowa!
Jennifer Page-Rogers (62 kg) scored a 10-0 technical fall in the semifinals to advance to the finals and won that best-of-three series by injury default. Jenn advances to the Final X.
Zain Retherford (70 kg) had an outstanding tournament, advancing to the finals with a 5-2 win over 2022 U.S. Open National Champion Alec Pantaleo. Reaching the finals in his weight class qualifies Zain for Final X.
Jason Nolf (74 kg) continued to dominate this spring, winning both of his best-of-three final matches by technical fall over Joey Lavallee. Jason also advances to Final X.
Carter Starocci finished 3rd at 79 kg. Carter lost his first match of the tournament but wrestled all of the way back. On his way to the bronze, Carter scored wins over some outstanding opponents in Alex Dieringer and David McFadden.
Josh Rodriguez (61 kg) and Nick Lee (65 kg) also had fine tournaments. Josh finished in 4th place while Nick reached the semi-finals where he came up just short in a high-scoring 12-11 match.
The Final X Series determines the 2022 U.S. Senior World Team in all three of the Olympic styles: men's and women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. The winners will represent the United States at the Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Sept. 10-18.
There are two Final X Events being held with some weight classes competing in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on June 3 and the remaining weight classes competing in New York City on June 8.
The NLWC has six wrestlers competing in the Final X series.
Oklahoma City on June 3-Thomas Gilman (57 kg), Zain Retherford (70 kg), and Kyle Snyder (97 kg).
In New York City on June 8-Jenn Page-Rogers (62 kg in WFS), Jason Nolf (74 kg), and David Taylor (86 kg).
