Current Penn State wrestler Mark Hall who competed under the NLWC banner when he won the U.S. Junior National Championships and the U.S. Junior World Team Trials won his second consecutive Junior World Championship today.
NLWC Resident Athlete David Taylor and Zain Retherford (representing the NLWC at this event) both won last evening in Times Square at the New York City "Beat the Streets" event. David won by first period fall, and Zain won a by decision, 8-2. Both David and Zain have been dominant in 2017. David was undefeated at the World Cup where he defeated three Olympic Medalists and recently won the U.S. Open. He's currently ranked 6th in the World at 189 lbs. Zain won his second NCAA title in March, and earned the Hodge Trophy.

NLWC Resident Athlete David Taylor dominated the 86 kg/189 lbs. weight class on his way to a National Title and Outstanding Wrestler award. David defeated Richard Perry in the finals with a 10-0 technical fall. He won by technical fall or pin over each of his 5 opponents. With his victories this weekend, David has now won 16 consecutive matches at the Senior level.

U.S. Senior National Championships/Olympic Trials Qualifier
The U.S. Senior National Championships which is also a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier will take place this weekend in Las Vegas. The top 7 place finishers in each of the six freestyle weight classes will qualify for the Olympic Trials in April. The NLWC Regional Training Center will be represented by five Resident Athletes and 2 U.S. Army WCAP Athletes.

The 2014 Nittany Lion Wrestling Club's Youth Recreation Wrestling Program concluded with the last "Sucker Saturday". The past 6 weeks the 70 plus participants improved their fitness, played some games, and learned some wrestling. The kids had a blast! After taking a year off the Nittany Lion Open is back! This Sunday, December 7, 300-400 wrestlers representing 20 teams will be coming to Happy Valley to compete for the Nittany Lion Open Crown. Below are the details:

Ed Ruth topped Keith Gavin 10-7 at 190lbs on Saturday afternoon in Flo Premier Leagues second professional wrestling even held at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals in Troy, NY on Saturday Afternoon. At 165 lbs two UFC fighters who were former wrestlers battled it out with Maynard coming out on top with a score of 19-9. Click HERE for a full release.

Wrestlers from all over the United States as well as the world are training at the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club Olympic Regional Training Center. Canada brought seven athletes and Peurto Rico brought four athletes to get some good training in this week. Also, the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club as well as other regional training centers on the East Coast have been sending wrestlers up to train.
Jake Varner 97kg and Ed Ruth 86kg won titles at the World Team Trials. David Taylor 74kg and Frank Molinaro 65kg each earned a spot on the US National Team, Taylor placing 2nd and Molinaro 3rd.
The Nittany Lion Wrestling Club claimed the U.S. Nationals Regional Training Center Cup on Saturday. Jake Varner returned to competition to claim the U.S. Nationals title at 97kg defeating Wynn Michalak 4-0. David Taylor finished 2nd, just falling short of Olympic Champion Jordan Burroughs 7-6. Ed Ruth earned 3rd place at 86kg after his win over Jon Reader 12-11. Finishing 4th at 65kg for the NLWC was Frank Molinaro. Mark McKnight (57 kg) and Quentin Wright (86 kg) both finished 7th. The top 7 place winners automatically qualify a spot for the U.S. World Team Trials in Madison, Wisconsin, May 31-June 1. Click Here for place match results.
